My First Quilt* – Finished!!!
by lowbeamstudios
***Well, the “official” first quilt. I somehow managed to get that other one started and finished while I was waiting on binding fabric for the above quilt (twice because I ordered the wrong color first). I finished this sometime early last week before the hospital stay, but photographed it this week.
I started playing with fabric a few months back for this quilt. I gathered some stashed fabric and added to it with a few purchases. The first block I sewed up is now being made into a pillow. And some others were cut up and re-incorporated into the final product. I started sewing pieces for this quilt without a distinct vision in mind. What was a vague picture finally came into focus about a month in. It ended up with an improv pieced floating block feel….if I had to describe it?
Fabrics include: Heather Ross (Munki Munki Dandelion up-cycled dress; Far, Far Away’s Frog Prince in two color ways; Mendocino Sea Horse), Alexander Henry Garden Spirals, up-cycled Club Monaco thrifted floral skirt, a forgot the name (green dot, orange zig zag, pink cross hatch, green cross hatch, pink dot, blue voile, blue trellis), a cross weave and Kona solids.
This quilt also contains and is bound in Birch Mod Basics Abacus in Pool.
It is backed with a mid weight linen from http://www.fabric-store.com in Meadow. I added a strip of small scraps from the front near the top as well. I quilted this with meandering straight lines on my machine with golden yellow thread in front and pale blue in the back. It measures 51″ x 59″ after a wash.
Congratulations! Beautiful color combinations and invented pattern. I love the photography too.
This is beautiful — I really love it!
Fantastic job! Love the randomness of this. Improv is fun isn’t it? Love the yellow patches…my favorite color
I love how soft the colors are.
this is so beautiful.
